The 2010 NHL Winter Classic, known as the 2010 NHL Winter Classic presented by Bridgestone via corporate sponsorship, will be the third edition of the NHL Winter Classic, an annual outdoor ice hockey game held by the National Hockey League (NHL) and will be played on January 1, 2010 as a regular season game at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts between the Boston Bruins (who will be the home team) against the Philadelphia Flyers. The New York Rangers had previously also been seriously considered as an opponent for the Bruins.Since there will be no NHL All-Star Game in the 2009–10 season due to the 2010 Winter Olympics, which are being held in Vancouver in February, the Winter Classic will serve as the league's biggest showcase game of the season.
In addition to the game between the Bruins and Flyers, there will be an NCAA game between the 2008 National Champion Boston College Eagles and 2009 National Champion Boston University Terriers. That
game is scheduled for January 9.

The 2009 NHL Winter Classic, also known as the Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, is a specially-staged National Hockey League regular-season game that will be played outdoors (weather permitting) on January 1, 2009, at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois at noon Central time. The game will pit the Chicago Blackhawks, who normally play their home games indoors at United Center, against the defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings in the 701st game between these rivals in the NHL's Central Division. This will be the first Winter Classic to involve Original Six teams. Attendance was 40,818.
The two teams will wear vintage-style uniforms, using the current Reebok Edge equipment and material. The Red Wings with a version of the sweaters (1926-27 Heritage Sweater) worn by the Detroit Cougars in their first season, but with their familiar "Wheeled Wing" logo on the shoulders, and the Chicago Blackhawks wearing a sweater comprised of a mix of their 1936-37 sweaters and their 1937-38 sweaters, with the design of the sweater from the 1936-37 season and the chest crest from the 1937-38 sweaters.

The 2008 NHL Winter Classic also known as the AMP Energy NHL Winter Classic was a National Hockey League game played on January 1, 2008 at 1:27 p.m. ET, outdoors at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, New York. It was the first regular-season outdoor professional ice hockey game to be played in the United States, and was sponsored by AMP Energy. It was the successor to the Heritage Classic, the NHL's first outdoor game, played in Edmonton, AB, CAN. Ralph Wilson Stadium is the home to the National Football League's Buffalo Bills, and because of this, the game is colloquially referred to as the "Ice Bowl."
The game, which was played at a temporary ice rink built on the football field at Ralph Wilson Stadium, set an NHL attendance record of 71,217. The home team was the Buffalo Sabres, and they hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins won the game, 2-1 in a shootout, on a goal by captain Sidney Crosby.
The Sabres held a Winter Classic "house party" at HSBC Arena during the game where another 11,000 fans saw the game shown live on the arena's video scoreboard with synched-up audio from the team's radio coverage.The Buffalo Sabres Alumni Hockey Team played a pre-game at the HSBC Arena as part of the house party festivities.
Buffalo Sabres anthem singer Doug Allen sang the Canadian national anthem, as is customary at Sabres home games and Irish tenor Ronan Tynan performed "God Bless America" before the game at the stadium.

The Heritage Classic was an outdoor ice hockey game played on November 22, 2003, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, between the Edmonton Oilers and the Montreal Canadiens. It was the second NHL outdoor game and the first regular season outdoor game in the history of the National Hockey League, and was modeled after the success of the "cold war" game between the University of Michigan and Michigan State University in 2001. The game was given the tagline "A November to Remember".
The very first NHL game to be played outdoors was in 1991, when the Los Angeles Kings played the New York Rangers in an exhibition game outside Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The event took place in Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium in front of a crowd of 57,167, despite temperatures of close to -18 °C, -30 °C (-22 °F) with wind chill. It was held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Edmonton Oilers joining the NHL in 1979. The CBC television broadcast also set the record for most viewers of a single NHL game with 2.747 million nationwide. This was the first NHL game broadcast in HD on CBC.
